Asbestos Remediation and Safe Removal Practices

The City of Calgary requires that asbestos removal be performed prior to the issuance of a building permit, and before any demolition takes place. If your home or business was built before 1987 it may contain asbestos.

At 24/7 Restoration, we understand asbestos removal is paramount and therefore we practice the safest and most efficient asbestos abatement procedures to ensure the safety of all Calgary residents.

We often hear questions like "What is asbestos?" or "What does asbestos look like?" Asbestos is a hazardous material known to cause serious health problems. For decades, it was commonly used as a building material due to its insulation and fire protection capabilities. Asbestos can be a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, but it typically resembles fibrous balls of lint. Detecting asbestos can be difficult since it was frequently mixed with other insulating materials. Asbestos can also show up in many different places including drywall mud, stucco, flooring, siding, or ceiling stipple. It can also be found in vermiculite insulation.

The dangers associated with asbestos exposure occur when the asbestos fibres are disturbed and disperse into the air.  As soon as the tiny fibres are released into the air, the entire area is contaminated and anyone inhaling the air at this time is at risk for serious health problems.  The most common cause of asbestos exposure in Calgary is renovations and demolitions.
